Janvi's personal Diary -3

Janvi's personal Diary -3

25/9/13

Yesterday, I couldn’t write as I was busy giving my CAT online exams. I proved to be very industrious yesterday. (I wore my new blue kurti which made me feel great!)

Yesterday , I and my other team members were preparing for our B-plan (For Concourse 2013 at BKMIBA, Ahmedabad), at the same time Smita ma’am was taking rehearsals of youth festival participants for Lok Geet . I heard them singing ...Jay Jay Jay Gujarat. That song made me feel that ‘I’m a Gujarati! , which I think we forget in our day-to –day rat race.

Those girls were singing so melodiously that I went totally lost into it. Suddenly ma’am asked ‘Janvi, Do you know anything about Lok Geet?’ Hearing this, my senses started searching for any relevant information regarding Lok Geet and I came up with an  answer saying ‘ Ma’am , I suppose Lok Geet is what old people sing !’ ma’am replied like with a  clock’s second hand speed ‘ Well, Lok Geet is something which has no poet .’ I was totally unaware about it. Then, taking benefit of my ignorance on this topic ma’am placed a second question to test my gray matter ‘Do you know who wrote the song ...Jay Jay Jay Gujarat.?’  And again there was razor sharp silence. Kuch der k liye to laga jese Devi Sarasvati mujse ruth gayi ho! But then ma’am answered saying ‘ It is written by poet Narmad . This song is like Gujarat State’s anthem.’ I was again listening with astonished eyes. With this ma’am added ‘You English medium students are totally unaware about your roots. Even my daughter reads the stories like ‘The princess and the pauper’ or she goes for reading Shakespeare but what is the use of reading all such stuffs when she is unaware about ‘ Jhaverchand Meghani’ ‘Joravarshi Jadav’, ‘Diwaliben Bhil’  or ‘ Gunvant Shah’...”
Ma’am told me about so many things relating to  Gujarat consisting of Charni sahitya, Kakasaheb kalelkar, ‘Chimanbhai patel’ ‘Shidhraj jaisingh’ ‘Swami Sahajand’ ‘Indulal Yagnik’ ‘jam Ranjit’ ‘Mehboob Khan’  ‘Adalaj Ni vav’ ,’Damodar Kund’  ‘Saiyad ni jali’ and many other priceless things. It was great to know that Gujarat gave birth to two father of the nation i.e. Mahatma Gandhi and Muhammad Ali Jinnah.

Knowing so much about Gujarat I felt as if...barso baad apni maa se mili hu, esa laga jese Gujarat me janm jene k bavjud me kisis angrez se kam nahi, esa laga jese mene asman me udna to sikh liya lekin dharti par chalna nahi sikh payi...
I then knew that Gujarat is not only about Gathiya , Garba and Dhandha, it is also about Charni sahitya, and  Lok Nrutya. My heart felt as if it wanted to sing aloud ‘jay Jay jay jay garvi Gujarat....mara dil ma dhadke Gujarat!’.

After all these I stood up from my chair, went to the brown framed window. I took  a look at the traffic moving down at a pace of my eye  blink and I could hear the song ‘Raj mane lagyo kasumbi no rang...’ It was later that I realized that my lips were its singer and also the composer of the smile which had just taken place on my blank face...
